X. To Undertake Without Hesitation Great Things for Your Glory and the Salvation of Souls
From the Series: Beneath the Standard of Mary – The Heart and Voice of an Auxiliary Member
Without hesitation.
Not someday or when the timing is better. Not when your finances are more stable or the circumstances are more favorable or the feeling of readiness finally arrives. Without hesitation. Right now. With whatever you have in your hands at this exact moment.
That is what this phrase is asking for, and it is one of the most demanding things in the entire prayer. Because hesitation is the most natural human response to anything that costs something significant. We hesitate because we are calculating. We are weighing the risk against the reward. We are asking ourselves whether we can really afford to do this, whether the sacrifice is worth it, whether the timing is right, whether someone else might be better suited for the job.
And while we are busy hesitating God is waiting.
The heartbeat behind any true ministry, any genuine act of apostolic love, is the refusal to let hesitation win. It is the decision made quietly and firmly in the interior of the soul that when God calls you to something you move. Not recklessly or without prayer and discernment. But without the paralysis that comes from loving your own comfort more than you love the mission He has given you.
I will be honest. There are moments when the needs of a ministry are real and the resources feel insufficient and the logical reasonable worldly response would be to pull back and play it safe. And in those moments, something rises up in me that has nothing to do with logic. I would rather pour everything I have into keeping the work going than let the work stop because the numbers did not cooperate. That is not recklessness. That is what it looks like when you have truly decided that the salvation of souls is worth more than your financial comfort.
Most people will not understand that. And that is perfectly fine.
Because here is the question that cuts through all the hesitation and all the calculation and all the careful weighing of pros and cons. At the end of your life, whenever that end comes, God is going to look at everything you did with the time and the resources and the gifts He gave you. And the question will not be how much did you accumulate. It will not be how many countries did you visit or how well did you protect your financial legacy or how impressive was the life you built for yourself.
The question will be what did you do for Me.
Think about the person who has done everything this world has to offer. Traveled everywhere. Dined everywhere. Owned everything worth owning. Their passport is stamped from every corner of the globe. Their bank account has more zeros than most people will see in a lifetime. And they did it all for themselves. Every acquisition, every experience, every carefully protected asset, all of it pointing inward, all of it serving the great god of self.
And in the end God says, I see everything you did. And what did you do for Me?
That is not a rhetorical question. That is the accounting that actually matters.
The saddest thing about a life built entirely around accumulation is not the waste of money. It is the waste of opportunity. Every day that person woke up they had the same twenty-four hours as every missionary who ever gave everything for the Gospel. They had the same access to prayer, to the sacraments, to the inexhaustible grace of a God who was right there waiting to be invited in. And they chose more instead.
More things. More money. More experiences. More control.
And here is the truth about more. It rots. It rusts. It gets disputed in probate court. It gets divided among people who do not always honor what you intended. Everything of this earth returns to this earth. Nothing material follows you through the door that every one of us will eventually walk through.
But a soul brought to God, a rosary placed in the right hands at the right moment, a word spoken in love that landed in a heart that was finally ready to receive it, that follows you. That is eternal currency. And you can spend it as freely as you want because the supply never runs out.
The only true excess available to a human being is God. Every other excess will eventually damage you, too much food, too much drink, too much of anything this world produces. But you cannot have too much God. You cannot love Him too much, pray too much, give too much in His name, spend too much of yourself in service of His glory. The return on that investment is not measured in dollars. It is measured in blessings so numerous that the sand on every beach in the world cannot count them.
So, wake up every morning and ask one question before any other thought takes over. How can I serve God today. How can I carry out His word or help others in their ministry. How can I show one more person how loving and forgiving and merciful they are. How can I get one more rosary into one more pair of hands that needs it.
Then do it without hesitation. Give! Give! Give! Inspire a Ministry! Join a Ministry! Be the secret quiet financial source in the background that keep it going.
Because the battle of life is short and the salvation of souls is urgent and the God who knew you before you were born is not asking you to wait until everything is perfectly in place.
He is asking you to move right now.
Without hesitation.
