Each year the Knights of Columbus Council #14622 hosts an annual day of prayer and cultural presentations in honor of St. Kateri Tekakwitha.
This year the event will be subdued as we honor 4 persons very dear to this pilgrimage who have recently passed away. They are: Leona Gonzales, who with her husband Rudy Gonzales is a founder of this event and was a major presenter annually; Richard Kane also a guest speaker and annual presenter; Irene Frosolone, Fatima Shrine cantor and soloist who generously donated her talents to honor St. Kateri; and Mark Walter, who always provided Knights of Columbus Color Corps escort for the day.
At the conclusion of the 5:00 pm Mass the group will process from the Basilica to the Statue of St. Kateri and recite the Kateri Chaplet. We will also be pausing in prayer in reparation for the offenses done against indigenous peoples as has been highlighted in the news about the discovery of unmarked graves at Residential Schools in Canada. There were similar institutions in the United States.
